Dressy Gertrude

Share post:

Centenarian Gertrude Carrington was treated like a queen by her family in celebration of her milestone.
Although she did not receive greetings from Queen Elizabeth II courtesy of Governor General Elliott Belgrave as this had not been arranged, she was nevertheless the queen of her family.
Granddaughter Ava Griffith said Carrington was a strict woman who still wanted to tell them what to do. She was still “very meticulous” and described her as a “hot dresser”.
The actual birthdate was on Saturday but the family treated her to a luncheon in the Kinnor Beach Apartments in Bathsheba, St Joseph, on Sunday, with the whole family and the neighbourhood being invited.
As for the family tree, Griffith said Carrington had four children, with one predeceasing her; 13 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren and 14 great-great-grandchildren.
Yesterday, Carrington returned to the Golden Towers Nursing Home in Welches, St Michael, where Griffith and her daughter Betty [Carrington’s great-granddaughter] bid her farewell. (CA)
