When I read my NATION newspaper, I would normally look at the front and then at the back page tuh determine which side I should read first, depending on how interesting duh look.
In Thursday’s paper the front page was quite interesting with the story o’ the honesty of the restaurant hostess who found the visitor’s bag, went looking for him, did not find him but put it aside without even suh much as looking in it, and then kept it safe until he came back for it. Dat story made me feel real good ’bout my Caribbean people and my country. It reminded me dat duh still got a lot o’ good honest people out there and it is still a beautiful world.
But the first headline dat catch my eyes, obviously, was Party Girl Rihanna Exhausted. I decided not tuh read dat one yet and kept turning the pages li’l more ’til I come tuh page 12 wid the big able headline: Obama Backs Gays. So I stopped and decided tuh read these two stories before anything else in the paper.
Now here are two individuals: one male, one female.
One a mature male adult, the other a young female adult. Both o’ dem prominent public figures: one the president o’ one o’ the greatest nations or countries in the world, the United States of America, Barack Obama and the other a world-famous entertainer, Rihanna. Both o’ these individuals in duh own way does carry a tremendous amount o’ responsibility as the eyes of the world does be always pon dem, every move duh make and evah single thing duh say. Both very influential people.
The Rihanna story is dat she like tuh party and drink and it looks like smoke nuff too. As the story says, Rihanna is burning the candle at both ends and she is spiralling outta control. It goes on tuh say dat evahbody is telling her tuh slow down and think ’bout therapy or even rehab; but duh say dat Rihanna has always been proud of her good girl gone bad reputation ’cause she said, “I’m crazy and I doan pretend tuh be anything else”.
Tuh me dat is a very silly and risky compromise. Rihanna like she doan realize dat she ain’t only risking her career but her future, her life and evah single thing dat she work suh hard for, just fuh a mere image: Good girl gone bad? It looks like instead o’ this girl would maintain the high standard she set, she like she is now more willing tuh take and settle fuh something far less because it is convenient and it pays.
Obama, pon the other hand, he is a next one. Now, he is married tuh one o’ the most beautiful black women pon the face o’ God’s earth. He has chosen a traditional marriage like what God spoke ’bout in Genesis 2: 23-24. God said, when he was finish making Eve from Adam, dat fuh this reason, a man will leave his mother and father and be united tuh his wife and the two o’ dem shall become one flesh. God made a man and he turn ’round and make a woman and before the two o’ dem, he call forth male and female of evahthing so dat they would produce. Two men cahn produce nutten; neither can two women.
If wunna think dat dat is old-fashion, in the New Testament, Jesus come back in Mathew 19: 4-6 and refer tuh the said same thing and using the said same words too.
I ain’t gine tell you nuh lie: I know quite a few people who say dat duh is homosexuals, some of dem is very nice people, I cahn deny dat, neither can I say dat I doan like dem. Duh is humans like me and got feelings just like you and me, but in my heart and as a woman of God, my Bible tells me dat it is wrong fuh two men or two women tuh sleep together like man and woman, far less married. Ting, God Almighty, who we does call pon, who we does swear by, who we say we does serve and worship, is the same God who destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah fuh dat very thing. So how could I then turn around and condone it?
Obama professes tuh be a Christian. He has chosen biblical standards and he has chosen tuh be president of the United States of America. Now he is compromising his own values, he principles and standards fuh political short-term benefits and gains. Look, um is one thing getting back into office but what about the damage it gine do tuh the country in the long run? You see dah thing call compromise? It is the art o’ convenience; it does not have tuh be right nor best.
Obama, boy, you playing you talking ’bout backing same-sex marriages, nuh? Huh! But I wonder how you would feel and what you would do if Malia and Sasha walk in one o’ these days and tell you dat duh want tuh introduce you tuh duh boyfriends and when you see the body, um is a woman pon duh arm. I could swear dat you would hit the roof or you jaws would hit the ground. Boy, be careful how ya compromise, hear? It does always come back tuh bite ya in ya tail.
