MINISTER OF HOME AFFAIRS ADRIEL BRATHWAITE is not happy with the state of some of the island’s District Emergency Organizations (DEO).
However, Brathwaite told the DAILY NATION yesterday it appeared to be an issue of politics.
“My impression is that not all of the DEOs are as strong as we would like them to be, and it’s something we need to work on because we are only as strong as our weakest link, and our ability to respond [to emergencies] at the community level is central.
“My impression is that they have been politicized and that should not be because as far as I am concerned, a DEO’s ability to respond shouldn’t [depend] on which Government is in power or which Member of Parliament is in office,” he said, adding the St John DEO was a good example of how they all should be operating.
