HISTORIC BRIDGETOWN?and its Garrison had been inscribed on the World Heritage List since last June but yesterday scores of Barbadians got the chance for the first time to savour the moment at the Inscription Ceremony at the Garrison Savannah.
Everyone stood for the moment of the evening, the unveiling of the plaque, and that honour was given to Prime Minister Freundel Stuart (left), UNESCO?director general Irina Bokova and Minister of Culture Stephen Lashley.
Bokova called the inscription the beginning of a journey, while Stuart hailed the achievement as testimony to the level of maturity that Barbados had reached. (MK)
