BARBADOS IS LOOKING to protect its tourism industry by addressing any threats that might come from international piracy.
So said Minister of International Business and International Transport George Hutson, as he delivered the main address during a luncheon held at the Beach House in St James on Saturday.
The luncheon was held in honour of 68 Barbadian seafarers who join 1.5 million others across the world today in celebrating Day of the Seafarers 2012, launched by the International Maritime Organization (IMO).
In addressing the issue of piracy, the minister said that Barbados was working with the international community through the IMO “to implement best management practices aboard Barbadian vessels in order to forestall any incidents of piracy”.
