Government has been accused of dragging its feet in implementing some of the measures for which the National Council for the Prevention of Alcoholism and Drug Dependency (NCPADD) has lobbied.
The delay in setting up a drug treatment court and breathalyzer testing were identified by president of NCPADD, Victor Roach, as some of the things said he was not too pleased about.
Speaking at a ceremony at the Garrison Secondary School, under the theme Drug Abuse Affects Everybody, and to mark United Nations International Day Against Drug Abuse And Illicit Trafficking today, Roach said the public supported some of the initiatives but there was a lack of national leadership on the issues put forward by NCPADD.
He said the banning of smoking in public places, which came to fruition recently, was a platform principle of NCPADD in 1989, but Roach said he was absolutely not pleased with the response to the breathalyzer initiative. (LK)
