All eyes will be on Shared Adventure when the Barbados Turf Club stages the sixth race day of its second racing season – the Men Under D Big Tent Race Day – at the Garrison Savannah tomorrow.
The main event for the afternoon, the Lennox “Ox” Williams Handicap over 1 100 metres, will see the Boston John-trained colt, which is owned by M and M, pitted against seven opponents.
The eight-race card gets going at 1:45 p.m. with eight West Indian-bred two-year-olds going the minimum trip of 1 000 metres.
Lewin Godding-owned Nekitta, handicapped at 118 pounds, was a very impressive second in her first outing and looks ready for another step up.
High Tide, taking 118 pounds, has been suggesting she could make the most of this inside post.
Race 8 – the Peter King Trophy Handicap over 1 570 metres – has the makings of a superb event.
Aysha Syndicate-owned Ring Time shoulders the top impost of 130 pounds, having displayed his first glimpse of form for quite some time. He could easily continue in that fashion in this event for horses three years and older rated 68-90 and open to horses rated 67 and below.
Nomoreginrog, who was an extremely impressive winner of the R. L. Seale & Company Limited Trophy Handicap over 1 570 metres, is down to carry 127 pounds.
This field, however, is vastly more competitive and his chances of a repeat victory, though not impossible, look improbable.
Lady Quill, taking 123 pounds, is another one who recorded a pleasant victory last effort in the Red Wine Condition race over 1 570 metres. In that event she got the better of stablemate Cinnamon Jane, who meets her here.
Others with strong claims are Fusaichi Ridge (127 pounds), Grace Chapel (115 pounds) and Must Be The Money (127 pounds).
Race 2 – the Derrick Barrow Trophy Handicap for four-year-old and older horses rated 35-60 – looks tailor-made for Byhookorbycreek despite the heavy burden of 133 pounds.
Extravagant Susan (110 pounds) and Foxy Baba (120 pounds) appear as legitimate contenders in this event, which is also open to horses that ran fourth and below in 2012.
The Andrew King Trophy Condition race – for horses three years and older rated 0-45 and open to horses 46 and above for a claiming tag of $5 000 over 1 100 metres – is loaded with speedballs.
When the jockeys really push their mounts, it could be Spellbound (128 pounds), Midnight Express (123 pounds) or Indian Soul (128 pounds) who will fire early.
However, if the temperature rises and the speedsters run low on gas, the opportunity would open up for Verizon (123 pounds), a winner last start, Late Bid (120 pounds) and Uncle Jerry (128 pounds) to come home blazing.
Amateur racing will also add to this wonderful card in the form of Race 6 – the Colin Coppin Trophy Handicap over 1 000 metres.
Of the ten starters, who are all handicapped to carry 165 pounds, Ism And Schism is probably the quickest strider.
Stag Hunter would have raced the highest of all entered and must be respected, while little consideration should be given to Macho Uno, Kabir and Cat Attack.
