RBC Royal Bank of Canada Insurance Company Limited managed to stand up to stiff global competition over the years despite harsh economic conditions, according to chief executive officer Tomas Dalinda.
He attributed much of the success of the 25-year-old company to the dedication of the staff, stating that their hard work was “almost like a secret sauce to competition”.
“Our competition is global; we have business in China, all throughout Europe and throughout North America. So we are competing against the largest insurance companies and reinsurance companies in the world. And we offer services to these organizations, so we have to be world-class,” he said.
“When I look at the management team that we have here, which is primarily Barbadian, they go out and they are talking to these clients and customers and deal with them on a daily basis and also visiting them when the time comes. We have to be as good, and if not better, to go through and win business.
“And the fact that we are growing and winning the business shows that we are able to compete quite well. We have been growing at over ten per cent per year for the last three or four years,” said Dalinda.
He told BARBADOS BUSINESS AUTHORITY that while “it is a bit tougher and trickier to compete” than it was prior to the recession, he remained “quite positive” about the sector.
“We have staff that are very knowledgeable and educated and committed to their jobs. Our turnover is extremely low.
“When we look at the opportunities that are facing us, it is a worldwide economy that we are competing in. So that gives us a lot more possibilities to go through and compete. So I am very, very positive, I would say. Maybe that is unusual but I am positive on our competition prospects,” Dalinda said. (MM)
