Employees of LIAT Airlines at the Maurice Bishop International Airport (MBIA) in Grenada went on strike today around noon and as a result, a number of flights scheduled for today and tomorrow have been cancelled.

According to a statement from the airline’s corporate communications manager, Desmond Brown, the affected flights are out of Barbados and Trinidad to Grenada have been cancelled. He did not give a reason for the industrial action.

“Customers affected by the disruptions who wish to rebook for a later date will be allowed to do so without charge for a period of one week from the date of their scheduled travel. Following the one-week grace period, passengers will be required to pay applicable fare and change fees when re-booking,” read the statement.

It did not say how long workers would stay off the job or when flights in and out of Grenada would resume.

“LIAT’s management is seeking a speedy resolution to this matter. LIAT sincerely apologises to affected passengers for any inconvenience caused as a result of the action by its Grenada employees,” it continued, stating that a further update on flights into and out of Grenada would be issued at 10 a.m. tomorrow.
