Financial difficulties tooK centre stage on the first day of the year’s final semester yesterday at the Cave Hill Campus of the University of the West Indies (UWI).
And not even a fourth consecutive Barbados Cricket Association Elite Division title (formerly Division One) on Sunday for Sagicor UWI?could lift spirits at Cave Hill.
Campus Principal Sir Hilary Beckles was a busy man, choosing to meet with staff leadership and department heads to apprise them of the university’s dire financial straits, and the possible way forward.
Sir Hilary was also scheduled to meet with president of the Students Guild, Damien Belgrave, but that morning meeting had to be deferred, as staff meetings took precedence and lasted almost until noon.
