MudDogs ready for Safari ride

MudDogs chairman Warren Gollop is predicting a memorable event ahead of today’s Barbados Rally Club’s (BRC) MudDogs Shelbury Construction September Safari.
The fourth of five rounds of the MudDogs Safari and Chefette Novice championship finds seasoned pairs such as Chris Armstrong and Wayne Clarke, respectively, leading the overall driver and navigator standings with 174 points each, two points better than Ryan Corbin and Dustin Edwards on 172 points each among the pros.
However, once a dropped score is taken into account, the two pairs slip into second and third places behind Leslie Alleyne and Chris O’Neal, who won both the Chefette April Safari and the Sol Go Further 55th Anniversary June Safari.
But things are somewhat different among the Chefette Novices as there is a six-point lead being held by Dominic Straker and Nicholas Pinto in the driver and navigator standings over Aswad Bannister and Nyere Jones. The dropped regulation, however, will not affect their positions, but would shuffle some competitors behind them.
The experience and guile of route-setter navigators, Biddy Barber and Warrick Eastmond are expected to test the competitors and make it a keenly contested safari after a three-month summer break.
“I hope that everyone has had an enjoyable and restful summer break and is rejuvenated for the final half-season surge. Warrick and Biddy are looking forward to providing an enjoyable rally with as much mud as they can get,” Gollop said.
“Once again, an effort has been made to make this Safari as enjoyable for both MudPups and MudDogs.”
The first of the 23 crews is scheduled to leave the start at Pool Plantation Yard, St John, at 8:01 a.m, with the finish at Barbados Clay Target Shooting Association (BCTSA) Club House at Searles, Christ Church, at approximately 4:30 p.m. There will be a lunch stop at Chefette Six Roads, St Philip.
The prizegiving for the September Safari will be held at the Barbados Clay Target Shooting Association tomorrow once the results are made official.
