QC win in fading light

WITH SOME of the better junior players in the island turning out for both teams, Queen’s College (QC) and the Barbados Community College (BCC) put on a tremendous volleyball show in fading light in Husbands, St James when the SuperCentre Inter-Schools’ League continued on Friday.
In the end, QC came from behind to defeat BCC 20-25, 25-20, 15-8.
In addition to their junior national volleyballers, QC also fielded junior netballer Vanessa Bobb and basketballer Ashley Daniel.  That duo combined with Ashley Roberts, Gabriella Mitchell and Barbados libero Janina Mayers to pilot QC to their second win of the season.
The superior skills of Michaela Cossey and the determined defence and attack of Xenia Garnes threatened to silence the QC supporters on their own turf but after squaring the sets Mitchell would serve from 6-7 to 11-7, to set up a winning advantage for QC.
In the BCC girls’ last game they crushed the Samuel Jackman Prescod Polytechnic 25-9, 25-8.
QC had also shown brashness in travelling to Waterford and dealing a double blow to Combermere. QC girls had beaten Combermere girls 25-13, 26-24, while the QC boys won 25-28, 17-25, 15-10 after a tough battle.
Unfortunately, the fading light prevented BCC boys from seeking revenge against the QC lads. The games had been shifted at the last minute from the Netball Stadium. (KB)
