It’s down to the last 16.
The City, the defending champions, will put their title on the line against St James South tonight as the headline match-up of the David Thompson Memorial Constituency Council’s Football Classic’s round of 16 matches.
The night cap at Ellerton playing field in St George is just one of eight Sweet 16 contests scheduled for tonight in the second edition of the highly-competitive out-of-season football tournament.
Favourites Christ Church West Central will be looking to keep their perfect record intact when they face the third-placed side from Zone 5, St John, in the early contest at Ellerton.
They’re the only team to have won all four of their group matches and one of just four sides – including The City (3-0-1), Christ Church South (2-0-2) and St Andrew (3-0-1) – not to have tasted defeat.
St Andrew, winners of Zone 6, are set to travel to Eden Lodge to play last year’s quarter-finalists St Lucy in the opening game while two second-placed teams from their respective groups, St Michael North and St Michael West Central, face off in the night cap.
At Dover, Christ Church South will tackle Zone 4’s third-placed side St Philip West in the feature game while St Michael North-West and the underachieving Christ Church East Central do battle in the first contest.
Zone 4 winners St James Central take their talents to Gall Hill to play St John in the featured game at that venue after neighbours St Michael Central and St Michael South Central square off. (JM)
