A 19-YEAR-OLD MAN who was excited about voting for the first time was stabbed to death on Wednesday hours before making his way to a political meeting.
Family members of Dillan Skeete, of Josey Hill, St Lucy, were still in shock yesterday over his death, which occurred at a bar in his neighbourhood.
Describing him as “quiet and very mannerly”, his aunt Requell Griffith said Skeete stopped by the bar to watch football and play dominoes before going to the political meeting.
“He was very excited to be able to vote for the first time and he had told his father that he was voting,” she sadly stated.
Skeete lived with his grandmother Violet Skeete, who was too distraught to speak.
A close family friend who was at the residence yesterday lending support to the family said everyone in the close-knit district was still trying to come to grips with the young man’s death.
“It was all over a stupid argument that happened a long time ago. Nobody could help him because they just sat down next to him while he was watching the television and started to stab him – it happened so fast,” she said with tears in her eyes.
“When you hear about a stabbing you think about some bad boys involved but Dillan was just extremely quiet and reserved. He never interfere with anyone.
If you go to any of the neighbours out here, they would just tell you how mannerly he was,” she cried.
Police in the Northern Division are investigating the killing, which occurred around 6:30 p.m.
Police said in a report that Skeete received a stab wound to the area of his stomach during an altercation with another man.
He was taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital by an ambulance. Later in the night he succumbed to his injury while undergoing treatment.
It is understood that a man was in police custody yesterday assisting with investigations. (MB)
