The inaugural Barbados Bikini Fitness and Men’s Physique Cup was a resounding success, officials say.
The two newest International Federation of Bodybuilding (IFBB) disciplines were witnessed by a vocal crowd, which filled the Combermere School Hall last Saturday.
The first ever men’s physique short class competition held in Barbados showcased 13 competitors with Marlon Dottin of Valley Fitness Zone judged to have displayed the best total package of athletic physique and confidence as he walked away with a weekend for two at Hilton Barbados.
Corey Weithers from Surfside was a close second, while Jamil Jones of J and S Health was third. De Krackem Gym’s Omar Benn, Firehouse Gym’s Kirk Yarde and Ryan Haynes of Flawless Concepts were fourth, fifth and sixth respectively.
The Strike Force Gym trio of eventual winner Lynstron Griffith, Jermaine Bradshaw and Duane Lucas swept the top three places in the tall class category. Griffith was also rewarded with a weekend for two at Hilton Barbados. Barry Griffith of Prostar Fitness was fourth while Paul Small of Valley Fitness Zone and Marcus Myers of Flawless Concepts rounded out the top six.
In an intriguing posedown, Marlon Dottin prevailed as the overall Men’s Physique Cup winner and was further rewarded with a bracelet from Secrexx.
Premix and Precast concrete Inc. provided supplements for the top competitors and sponsored the men’s section.
Among the nine bikini fitness girls, Domini Alleyne of Flawless Concepts captivated the audience and the judges as she dominated the field, epitomising poise and grace with an athletic feminine physique.
Alleyne was the recipient of a $2 000 laser tooth bleaching procedure by the sponsor of the bikini section, Aesthetic Dental.
Tanisha Cross, Shakira Douglin and Carlisia Best, all of Strike Force Gym were second, third and fourth respectively. An improved Leandra Linton of Valley Fitness Zone was rewarded with fifth place.
Of special note was Jill Thorne, a 15-year-old competitor from the Goodland Barbell Club. Even though she did not make the top six, Thorne was given a special prize of a voucher from Nature’s Discount and along with 18-year-old Rashida Gill of Flawless Concepts, who finished sixth. Both appear to have a bright future in bodybuilding and fitness.
“The display of development by these athletes proves that the IFBB has disciplines for the average fitness enthusiast with the emphasis being on confident presentation and stage personality,” the president of the Barbados Amateur Bodybuilding Federation, Dr Andrew Forde, said. (PR/EZS)
