Not so fast!
That’s the reaction of the President of the Barbados Bar Association regarding a suggestion that a court be established to deal solely with crimes against tourists.
Barbados Hotel and Tourism Association (BHTA), president Patricia Affonso-Dass made the suggestion yesterday, noting that crimes against tourists should be seen as an act of “economic terrorism”.
But president of the Bar, Andrew Pilgrim, doesn’t think that’s the proper way to curb the spate of crimes which have seen several tourists attacked, robbed of their jewellery, and even shot in broad daylight a week and a half ago.
“I don’t think that may be the best thing at this time,” Pilgrim told the WEEKEND NATION yesterday.
“It could suggest that crimes against certain types of victims are more serious than crimes against your own people.”
