Still no let-up in water woes

It continued to be an Easter to forget for thousands of households across Barbados yesterday, with dry taps and low water pressure.
Scores were forced to get supplies from water tankers or to visit friends’ homes to bathe as the Barbados Water Authority (BWA) continued to battle equipment failure along with low reservoir levels caused by the prolonged dry season.
The low pressure and outages, which have plagued parishes like St Joseph and St Thomas since Good Friday, hit urban districts in St Michael yesterday when Waterford Pumping Station’s equipment failed. This resulted in residents of Waterford, Lodge Hill, Cave Hill Eden Lodge, Codrington, Jackson, Hothersal Turning, Rock Dundo, Spooners Hill, Green Hill and the surrounding districts being affected.
Parts of St Joseph, St Thomas and St James continued to be impacted, with low pressure and dry taps due to low water levels at the Golden Ridge Pumping Station in St George which feeds the Castle Grant reservoir, as well as low levels at the Warleigh reservoir. This situation was compounded yesterday when a nine-inch main ruptured at Small Town, St John. (SP)
