TOMORROW WILL BE exactly a year since her son was shot by police, but to this day Deborah Maynard has not been counselled or given an apology, nor does she know who fired the fatal bullet.
Her son Jamar would have turned 28 last Sunday, but he lost his life to a police bullet after being shot in the left arm by one of two police detectives on foot patrol in the vicinity of St Mary’s Anglican Church, Bridgetown, on the night of April 3. He died at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital the following day.
A coroner’s inquest will be conducted into the matter in June, but Maynard remains uninformed and dejected.
“To see that my child left home, and then this just happened and nobody even bothered to give me any sympathy. It’s as if I don’t exist,” Maynard told the MIDWEEK NATION.
