Rain stalls laying of track surface

WORKMEN were on site to finally begin laying the Mondo surface at the National Stadium yesterday when a mid-morning shower brought plans to a halt before they even got under way.
With the asphalt surface too wet to lay the synthetic surface, the decision was made to wet the track, test areas for settling and fill the depressions with matting.
NATION photographer Kenmore Bynoe was on hand to see workers cleaning the surface in preparation, while the pieces of the track, numbered one to eight, are in the background.
Meanwhile, the infield, which had taken a beating from the heavy-duty equipment, is undergoing landscaping and the grass is returning.
More sand has been placed in the two sand pits, but it hasn’t been spread yet as the sides of the pit are being plastered and graded.
