Barbadians travelling to Miami were able to fly out today, a day after American Airlines (AA) was forced to ground its entire operation.
The early morning flight of the American carrier from Grantley Adams International to Miami International took off on time at 7.10 a.m. with no passengers being inconvenienced, AA said.
On Tuesday, the Dallas, Texas-based company had grounded all flights, when their main reservations system went down, completely disabling their ability to check-in passengers or track flight information.
Thousands of passengers were stranded at airports and on airplanes because of the outage, which was reported as fixed in the early hours of yesterday.
Our operations in the Caribbean and elsewhere returned to normal this morning,” media relations manager Matt Miller said from AA’s headquarters.
“We cancelled approximately 200 flights today due to weather in Chicago and to help with crew and aircraft repositioning. Again, we apologize to our customers for the inconvenience yesterday and thank our team for their continued efforts.” (BA)
