Despite INTERMITTENT SHOWERS, steady progress is being made on the 100 metres stretch at the National Stadium.
The first section was laid on Saturday afternoon while athletes were competing across the road at Combermere School and the decorative pavers which were used to help seal the seams on the lower section have been removed.
Work continued this week on the upper section of the straightaway closer to the finish line.
Improved drainage was one of the conditions which had to be met in the installation of the new track and the run-off, which appears to be a couple feet deep, runs parallel to lane one.
Grading along the edges of the two sand pits has been completed and final finishing is being done to the runway before that area is also covered.
Work is projected to finish next month. After the track has been laid, the markings for the various starts, hurdles and other activities have to be put down. (SAT)
