The region is falling behind the rest of the world in producing international netball umpires and the Caribbean Netball Association (CNA) is moving to address this problem with the staging of a seminar in St Lucia from May 30 to June 6.
This was one of the items on the agenda last Friday and Saturday when president Kathy Harper-Hall and the rest of the CNA executive committee met at the National Sports Council.
The seminar will be for preliminary and intermediate as well as advanced umpires who are interested in becoming trainers and testers.
There are 29 International Umpires Award (IUAs) holders who are qualified to officiate at the top level. Barbados’ lone qualified umpire is Marion Johnson-Hurley.
