The Ministry of Labour meant no disrespect to the Barbados Workers’ Union (BWU) when the umbrella labour group was asked to choose the worker delegate to attend the upcoming International Labour Organization (ILO) conference in Geneva.
Minister of Labour Dr Esther Byer-Suckoo made the comment yesterday in response to allegations of disrespect levelled at the Ministry by the BWU.
“This Ministry means no disrespect to the BWU and apologizes if its actions were interpreted as such,”?she told a news conference.
The Minister lauded the sterling contribution of BWU general secretary Sir Roy Trotman at the ILO over the years, stating that he “has made us particularly proud as he served as the workers’ vice-president at the ILO for 19 years – a post he resigned two years ago”.
