$400 fee causes tension at Erdiston

A DISPUTE SEEMS to be brewing at Erdiston Teachers’ Training College.
Some students in the two-year Associate Degree in Education programme are up in arms because they are being asked to pay $400 to complete the final four weeks of the required programme in September. The matter has been brought to the attention of their representative, the Barbados Union of Teachers (BUT).
A spokesman for the affected group told the WEEKEND NATIONthe ten-week programme was broken down intosix- and four-week segments and all the students who qualified had completed the first.
She explained that some teachers went back to the classroom for the final four weeks of teaching, used their own funds to purchase materials and taughtas required, but there was no one toassess them. (YB)
