‘Let’s work together’

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR of the Barbados Manufacturers Association (BMA), Bobbi McKay, thinks that some local firms are selfishly “trying to break for themselves”, and importing products that are available here.
Speaking at the launch of the annual BMEX trade fair at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre, Two Mile Hill, St Michael, McKay, said that the playing field could be level when local manufacturers were being bypassed by some elements of the corporate sector.
“Now that some local manufacturers were no longer in the sector, they have chosen to cut corners and import goods that they once produced, which are still being produced here.
“The reality is that we all have to become more conscientious in our decision-making as we are all trying to manage overheads and ensure that our businesses are sustainable but we cannot selfishly break for ourselves.  (MK)
