THE Queen Elizabeth Hospital requires more than half million dollarsto fully finance the newand enhanced cardiacunit that is expectedto open in November or early December.
Head of the hospital’s cardiovascular services department, Dr. Stephen Moe, told the DAILY?NATION yesterday, that lack of funding has slowed completion of the unit which will have ten cardiac beds, two of them recovery beds.
“The hold-up has really been funding. We are in a situation right now where the island is strapped for cash and this department like any other institution in the island is faced with that issue.
“The hospital needs funds in order to be ableto acquire equipment and other things that we need to work. That’s the main delay because everything else has been in place. The plans have been there, a large part of the funds have been there but it is just to get that additional funding,” he said. (MK)
