THE SERVICE PROVIDED by two utility companies is coming under scrutiny with the Fair Trading Commission (FTC) proposing increased compensation for consumers who are shortchanged, changes to existing standards and additional customer guarantees.
The FTC has outlined what it has in mind for Cable & Wireless (Barbados) Limited and the Barbados Light & Power Company Ltd (BL&P) in two consultation papers released as it reviews the standards of service provided in the 2010-2013 period.
The speed at which C&W repairs landline faults caused by the failure of its equipment or systems has been identified by the FTC as a major concern.
The commission noted a “marked deterioration” in performance and not only proposed an increase in the compensation for affected customers, but chastized C&W for its poor service in this area.
