The men at the Geriatric Hospital got a chance to interact with and share some of their memories with Governor General Sir Elliott Belgrave when he visited the hospital yesterday.
Sir Elliott spent a few minutes greeting some of the patients as he was making his annual Christmas rounds. Also visiting the hospital was Chief Medical Officer Dr Joy St John.
At the end of the tour hospital manager Joanell Oxley-Worrell expressed pleasure at the level of contributions to the hospital from individuals as well as organizations.
“This is Christmas time and this is a time when the spirit of Christmas is in the air and we have been getting a lot of contributions,” she said. “Elderly [people] are usually abandoned and, especially in this environment, I think [people] are making a special effort to give to the elderly at this time”.
Oxley-Worrell had previously made a call for relatives to visit their family members and she said this year there has been an increase in the number of family members visiting. However, she said she would like to see the families coming in throughout the year, not only at Christmas. (LK)
