Hope for a better new year

Well here we are on the other side of Christmas and thank God there has been no more unfortunate incidents, accidents or any o’ the other negative things dat always seem tuh happen at Christmas time.
I have always wondered why duh does have so many fires just before Christmas. Why somebody house does always burn down, affecting the one next door, causing a lot o’ people tuh be homeless around this time when people does be looking forward tuh spending a good peaceful Christmas season wid family and friends. Rather, it does turn out tuh be a time of sadness and loss.
I could understand why duh does have the lot o’ road accidents and at times, deaths pon the road just before Christmas.
Ya see, after driving all these years I have come tuh accept dat a lot o’ people real impatient and does drive like duh gine tuh out a fire. Some drivers like duh doan believe dat dem should have tuh wait behind nuhbody, evahthing does be ’bout speeding like um is only dem who got somewhere tuh go.
So while most o’ the time it doan be dem who does be in the accident, it is dem who does cause the accident and pelt and gone long bout duh business.
So now I thank God dat we have lived through another Christmas day and now looking forward tuh, despite all the predicted doom and gloom in the coming year, I am looking forward tuh a prosperous, blessed and happy new year – 2014.
I hear a pastor say one time dat when things get real bad and ya look behind ya, tuh the left side, tuh the right side and then in front and cahn see nuh kinda hope, the only thing left tuh do is tuh look up. I have adopted dat and have been doing dat fuh a good few years now.
I ain’t telling you nuh lie, dat is what has been keeping me going, otherwise wid all dat has been going on, if ya doan look up, ya would go mad as france.
The thing is, we cahn stop nuhbody from down grading and predicting whatevah, dat is dem prerogative, if dat is what dem see well, so be it but we doan have tuh stop living and give up; we have tuh keep on keeping on. We have tuh make it work fuh we old people tuh live comfortable and we children who now coming along wid all kinds o’ hopes and dreams.
We have tuh believe in weselves and in this country; we have tuh make sure dat wahatevah the naysayers say and predict fuh this sweet li’l rock, dat it doan come tuh pass so dat they would get the opportunity tuh point duh fingers at we and laugh.
I is one o’ the very positive Barbadians who believe and know dat we will rise above these very trying times ’cause we is Caribbean people, we is Barbadians, we will ride the storms and bounce back.We resilient.
Before I close, let me offer my deepest sympathy tuh all the families who would have lost their children, parents and friends in 2013 and more so around this time of year. I know this time would bring back lots of memories and a lot of sadness but remember what I said, ya have tuh look up.
Then tuh all the families who have lost everything tuh fire and now have tuh be either living in deplorable conditions in part o’ the same burnt-out house or the ones who have tuh be bunking up wid friends or other family members, let me offer my deepest sympathy and I pray dat 2014 gives you hope and brings all of you happiness.
