ALMOND RESORT has something to prove and has about 15 months to do it.
Chairman of Sun Group Inc., which operates Almond and four other properties, Bernard Weatherhead, said they had a commitment from the Government of Barbados up until April/May 2015, at which time the Government may go through with the contract with Beaches.
But until such time, Weatherhead and his team intend to prove that they can fill the global demand for a quality four-star hotel.
“We’re going to demonstrate that this hotel can run at high occupancy and to make money for the Government. Certainly whilst I have it,” Weatherhead insisted.
While he said Barbados needed a world-class hotel, and that he supported every effort to bring Sandals or any other brand to Barbados, Weatherhead said it would be very “sad to see something like this, that is a very good four- star hotel, get bulldozed”.
