Need to do more

A day after violence again broke out at a secondary school, the national parent-teacher body said it may be time to expand the duties of the guidance counsellors and increase anger management workshops.
Barbados National Council of Parent-Teacher Associations’ (BNCPTA) first vice-president Shone Gibbs said they maintained a zero tolerance policy on violence in schools and it may be time for guidance counsellors to visit homes.
“We have done several workshops on anger management and its cause and effects because we have to have a thorough investigation of what is happening in the home and community. we have to look at how children are being entertained by games and movies and how they are affecting them,” he said.
In the January 21 edition of the DAILY NATION, Ricardo Wickham was reported to have been charged with assaulting a schoolboy seen in a Facebook video beating Wickham’s son in a classroom.
