BARBADOS WILL BE getting some major exposure in a non-traditional market this week.
A contingent from the popular Crop Over band PowerX4, along with dancers, a steel orchestra and a body paint artist from Trinidad, are heading off to Hong Kong tomorrow where they will be participating in the massive celebrations for the Chinese New Year.
Bandleader Chetwyn Stewart told the SUNDAY SUN the team numbers about 30 in total and it will be the first time a Caribbean element will be part of the largest float parade on the Chinese calendar.
“It’s PowerX4 to Hong Kong. . . . This is really what’s going on on this street. It has 100 000 spectators. It is the largest parade of the year in Hong Kong – the Cathay Pacific International Chinese New Year Parade. We taking a kinda Caribbean float,” Stewart explained.
