THEY?MAY be smiling, but it was definitely no laughing matter at Wakefield Estate yesterday.
Close to 30 cotton pickers at the St John plantation were told they would be out of work until July.
Much to their disappointment, the mostly female cotton pickers were given the news when they turned up for work.
 It proved a further setback for the workers who had been hired because there was no work for those not involved in the sugar harvest.
