Cops to advise on safety of seniors

The safety of the elderly has prompted the Barbados Association of Retired Persons (BARP) to start a new initiative with the Royal Barbados Police Force.
“The police have offered to extend their service of a safety audit. So if [members] call BARP, give us your name and say you need a home audit for safety purposes at your house we will channel it to the Royal Barbados Police Force,” said Ed Bushell, president of BARP during a Press conference at their Collymore Rock headquarters.
“The relevant officers will come and look at the entrances to your home, the locks you’re using, your lighting in and around your house and they will advise you accordingly.”
According to Bushell, the initiative which will  start immediately, comes on the heels of the robbery and severe beating of an elderly couple at Richmond Plantation in St Peter by two masked men back in March.
“We had been talking to the police for some time about improving the safety of seniors in Barbados and that incident sort of accelerated us,” Bushell said. (SH-O)
