GAL FRIDAY: Have you made your list yet?

So Kim and Kanye got married.
I’ve not been following the Klan, but there was no shortage of information on the wedding: how the brother of Kardashian freaked out and ran away (good thing he wasn’t the bride) and who was on the coveted K-List.
Somehow, in every part of the world, there’s a list. If you’re on one it’s great . . . on another, not so much. Example: there’s the hit list and the blacklist. They say Jay-Z was on both over the last few weeks, in relation to his sister-in-law, Solange.
Then there’s the checklist and the mailing list. The former I formulate but always forget when going to the supermarket. If you’ve ever had to visit the QEH, you’d know about the waiting list; and when you’ve been interviewed, you’re always happy to make the shortlist.
I like to stay positive, so I promise to make no reference to this new “sending-people-home list” we’ve been hearing so much about. There’s enough of that talk all over the place, so how about we talk about the bucket list. (Yes, it’s ironic that in my endeavour to “stay positive” I now point to the inevitability of death, but I hope you understand my intention!)
Many of us may have seen the movie The Bucket List. If you have no idea what I’m writing about, a “bucket list” is a record of things you wish to do before you die. For example, I hope to visit each continent before expiration.
Most importantly, the bucket list helps us define our desires with the expectation of achieving them. What’s also great about the bucket list is, it could change at any time, depending on what you – and you alone – wish to do before you pass.
I know a lady who wanted to go to Jerusalem all her life but then converted and decided that she’d rather give the money she was saving for travel, to a women’s shelter.
Then there is my father who always wanted to see the cricket grounds in Australia and all of a sudden, he’s averse to going “Down Under”. . . so the list could change accordingly. Some of us have bucket desires that are lofty and some, banal. Think Henry Fraser vs Market Vendor and you’d understand that concept.
Before I go, I’d like to challenge you to make your own list and see how enjoyable an exercise it really is. I may be regarded as a quite dull damsel, since mine only has four items on it, but make your list as long as you wish. Perhaps you want to meet Queen Liz, or even land a top hit. Maybe you dream of building an empire or saving a life . . . put it down on paper and go for it.
You know what? Kemar Saffrey shook hands with Her Majesty, RiRi’s composed several top hits. Assad Haloute built an empire out of chicken and all the wonderful people who’ve adopted from the RSPCA have saved a life.
Make the list before you kick the bucket.
Veoma Ali is an author, actor, broadcaster, advertising exec and, most importantly, a karaoke lover.
