BARCELONA, Spain (AP) – Athletic Bilbao edged Sevilla 1-0 at home today to ruin the visitors’ chance to overtake Real Madrid at the top of the Spanish Football League.
Striker Aritz Aduriz scored what proved to be the 13th-minute winner before leaving injured in the 28th.
Sevilla’s second loss in ten rounds left Unai Emery’s team in fourth place and Madrid heading the standings, followed by Atletico Madrid and Barcelona all within two points.
Valencia visit Villarreal later, looking for a victory to further tighten the title race.
Bilbao climbed into 11th place on their second consecutive win.
Madrid climbed to the top yesterday after winning 4-0 at Granada and Barcelona’s 1-0 loss at home to Celta Vigo.
