Girl Guides against violence

The children in the Girl Guides movement took their anti-violence and anti-abuse messages to the streets on Saturday.

Several units of Blossoms, Brownies, Girl Guides and Rangers met at their Pax Hill headquarters and were sensitised to the issue, which publicly raised its ugly head again last Wednesday with a cutlass attack on a woman.

They made placards, spelt out the theme on individual card tiles and engaged in activities like singing and dancing before commencing the rally and march from Belmont Road to St Michael’s Cathedral where they met for worship.

Blossom trainer Jennifer King said the prepared messages were age-appropriate for the various groups. She added that the messages for the Blossoms, who range between four and seven years old, were done in a “gentle” manner. (YB)
