BARBADOS has welcomed the historic announcement that the United States will be re-establishing diplomatic relations and economic ties with Cuba.

And Prime Minister Freundel Stuart has described the development as “a very positive and forward looking step from the point of view of the Government of Barbados”, during an interview with the DAILY NATION at Government Headquarters yesterday.

Stuart, who said the move was “music to my ears”, stressed that the time had come for a normalisation of relations between Cuba and the US.

President Barack Obama announced yesterday that the United States was taking steps to restore full diplomacy with Cuba, a historic move that would end 50 years of frozen relations with the communist nation.
