A spirited batting performance enabled St Leonard’s Boys to capture the Barbados Cricket Association (BCA) Goddard Enterprises Schools’ Three-Day Trophy yesterday.

They were guided home by a fighting 102 fifth-wicket stand in 30 overs between Jamar Ifill and Demario Goodman. Ifill cracked an attacking 76 and Demario Goodman made a courageous 24.

Replying to dethroned champions Caribbean Alliance/Akobah Gardens Foundation’s 216, St Leonard’s took the title by virtue of gaining first innings lead. They were dismissed for 239.

Foundation were eight for one when the match was called off in the second of the mandatory 15 overs.

St Leonard’s resumed from an overnight 91 for four, Ifill was on seven and Demario Goodman nought. Ifill rode his luck with chances in the deep at 20 and 33.  He lifted Joshua Drakes for successive sixes at the start of his eleventh over but Drakes would have been disappointed after Ifill was earlier dropped off him.

Goodman proved to be the prefect foil throughout. Ifill, the third left-hander to register a 50 and who made the highest score of the match, brought his half-century with a heave over mid-wicket for six, off leg-spinner Drakes.

His 87-ball knock contained six sixes and two fours in 117 minutes.

Joshua Drakes went wicketless on the day, he ended with three for 64. Pacers Dominic Drakes and Shomari Gibson claimed two each for 21 and 26 respectively.
