New finance model soon for QEH

The Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) plans to transform its medical records, payment and supply management systems as well as implement telemedicine and seek international accreditation in the new year.

This was all revealed by chief executive officer Dr Dexter James during a presentation of $20 000 worth of medical supplies yesterday by Facey Trading Ltd.

James said Barbados could no longer afford its current health care financing model and a conversation needed to be had with the public about how best they could work together going forward.

“We will not be able to sustain the existing package with the current model which exists, so it behoves us to find a new modality for financing the health system as a whole and the QEH in general.” (CA)
