Stepney folk happy with repairs

THERE IS NO LONGER a yawning hole in the road at Stepney Bottom, St George.

And residents who were anxious that the collapse might have spelt caves beneath their neighbourhood are now breathing easier after a crew from the Ministry of Transport and Works (MTW) moved swiftly to fix it.

Five weeks ago residents awoke to find that a section of their relatively new road had caved in, making it impassable.

The collapse came after the island had been drenched by rain for more than 24 hours. It made residents uneasy given that there were rumours that the road had been built over caves.road-cave-in-112314

But, said Moreen Best, less than 48 hours after the incident, a crew from MTW arrived and began to repair the road.

Now her family and she are breathing a lot easier today since she had feared an accident should she have to make a hasty exit with her blind daughter.  (HLE)
