Send your children to school.

That is the word from Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of Education, Senator Harry Husbands, who was responding to concerns from parents about what is to happen to their children given that the Barbados Union of Teachers (BUT) has summoned its members to a meeting at Solidarity House for 9 a.m. today.

The BUT has advised members to go directly to Solidarity House for what is expected to be a meeting lasting for no more than three hours.

Noting that he had not seen any correspondence from the BUT alerting the ministry to the meeting up to the time he spoke to the DAILY NATION yesterday, Husbands said school would restart as scheduled.

Minister of Education Ronald Jones used his Facebook page to send a clear message to parents and teachers alike.

“School starts for the students of our nursery, primary and secondary schools on Tuesday the 6th of January, notwithstanding the call by the Barbados Union of Teachers of a meeting with their membership,” he said.
