A TOUGH-TALKING Acting Commissioner of Police Tyrone Griffith sounded a clear warning to members of the Force this morning – corruption has no place there and rogue officers will be weeded out.

Speaking before a packed hall at the Police Force Annual General Conference at Solidarity House, Griffith said he felt obliged to “say something about ethics”.

“Most of you are aware of an ongoing investigation into a serious criminal matter involving members of the force,” he said.

“These investigations are still delicately poised and I would not want to say very much more on the specifics of this matter. What I would say in a more general context is that the force abhors corrupt conduct by its members and will do all in accordance of the law to rid itself of rogue officers.

The timely reminder comes as several officers are under investigation in connection with an illegal drug racket.

“There is no place for such persons on the force and the vast majority of our men and women are of high morals and generally conduct themselves professionally,” Griffith added. (MB)
