A NUMBER of local hoteliers and tourism officials who attended the recently held Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association (CHTA) Caribbean Travel Marketplace in Puerto Rico have expressed satisfaction with negotiations with tour operators during the two-day event.

They are also excited about current high occupancies and optimistic about the summer months, even though this period “will present some challenges in filling hotel rooms”.

During interviews with the DAILY NATION at the Puerto Rico Convention Centre where close to 1 110 delegates met from January 28 to 30, hoteliers said they were happy with business meetings and that tour operators were positive about the potential of Barbados’ tourism market.

Cheryl Blackman, head of marketing at Radisson Beach Resort, noted that although opportunities for winter and summer looked positive and there was good feedback and lots of potential from tour operators, “we cannot sit on our laurels”.
