No to cement plant on highway

RESIDENTS OF Brighton, Brandons and neighbouring areas have said a resounding “no” to the planned establishment of a cement facility near the Flour Mill, off the Spring Garden Highway.

But during a meeting yesterday evening at Weiser’s On The Bay restaurant on Brandons Beach, Opposition politicians appeared sharply divided on the issue, with Member of Parliament for St George South Dwight Sutherland supporting it, former MP Mark Williams against it, and one-time St Michael West representative Reverend Joseph Atherley saying the proposed location was inappropriate.

Williams and Residents Against Dust (RAD), a group which he coordinates, complained that cement dust would get into the air, causing health problems in homes and on the popular beaches.
