LASTING LEGACY?: All credit to World Cup team

IN THE YEARS leading up to Cricket World Cup 2007, a host of naysayers questioned the Caribbean’s ability to host an event of such magnitude.

This writer was among that group.

At the same time, others were predicting the enormous benefits that would accrue to the region. This writer wasn’t among that group.

Eight years after the event, I hold my head in shame and admit I was wrong on one count. On the other, however, I feel my initial forecast wasn’t too far off the mark.

As one who had travelled extensively throughout the Caribbean to cover regional and international cricket for more than ten years before the World Cup, I had reason to doubt if we were capable of the myriad challenges associated with hosting a mega event.
