Jamaican woman on drug charges

A 26-YEAR-OLD Jamaican woman pleaded guilty to four drug charges and was fined a total of $9 000 when she appeared in the District “B” Magistrates’ Court today.

Melecia Latoya Harrison was fined $3 000 forthwith or six months in prison on the charge of possession and $6 000 or nine months in prison on the charge of trafficking.

She was convicted, reprimanded and discharged on the offences of possession with intent to supply and importation.

According to police, Harrison arrived by air on March 1, 2015 from Jamaica.

She was interviewed by police and referred to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital where she subsequently passed forty (45) packages of the drug she had ingested.  The total weight was one pound. (PR/NB)
