Silver Sands and Gall Hill suffer

IT WAS A TOUGH NIGHT for the southern teams when the Barbados Football Association’s Digicel Premier League tournament continued Thursday at the National Stadium.

Silver Sands went down to leaders Weymouth Wales 3-0, while Pride of Gall Hill fell by a similar scoreline to the University of the West Indies – their fifth consecutive defeat.

The result did not do justice to the valiant effort displayed by Silver Sands who found themselves down to ten men in the 20th minute when goalkeeper Rhon Cox was sent off for apparently handling the ball outside of the penalty area.

Wales only broke through in the 84th minute, through Corey McCollin. Kemar Headley scored his fifth goal of the season in the 87th minute, and Tristan “Fishy” Parris sealed the victory in injury time.

UWI got out the blocks quickly against Gall Hill, with Rivierre Williams scoring off the rebound after goalie Corey Bridgeman had initially saved his spot kick. The kick was awarded after Dario Harewood was brought down in the fourth minute, and it had to be taken twice.

UWI dominated for most of the game and created several chances only to be thwarted by excellent goalkeeping by Bridgeman.

However, Mario Harte struck in the 71st minute with a brilliant left-footed drive and followed up in the 92nd minute with a neat right-foot finish.
