CENTURIES BY OPENERS Devon Smith and Tyrone Theophile helped Windward Islands Volcanoes make a strong reply to the Barbados Pride but the home side countered mainly through Ashley Nurse on either side of tea as the visitors reached 384 for eight at Kensington Oval, yesterday.

Smith hit 151, recording 1 000 runs against Barbados in the process while Theophile made 125. The pair put on a record 269 for the first wicket, beating the previous best for the first wicket between the two sides of 173, made by the same pair, two seasons ago.

Barbados went wicketless in the pre-lunch session in which 85 runs were scored. Both batsmen were by then within sight of centuries with Smith 92 and Theophile 84 in a total of 192.

The pair completed the double century opening stand in 271 minutes off 64.4 overs. (PH)
