BL&P clears air about $4 million bonus

NO $4 MILLION bonus was paid to the Barbados Light & Power’s (BL&P) executive chairman Sarah MacDonald as is being suggested.

What’s more, though the number of BL&P employees have indeed declined in the last few years, the cost of wages and benefits has surpassed any savings initially gained from this reduction.

These were among the points the BL&P sought to clear the air over the weekend in response to some workers’ accusations that the company’s planned $30 million cost-cutting exercise over the next 24 months was more about securing greater profits for shareholders than right-sizing the company for the future.

A concerned group of workers told the DAILY NATION that MacDonald had reportedly received bonus payments in the last two years of US$1.6 million and US$2 million, respectively, as an extension of the increased payments to Emera executives  done in Canada.
